BORRMA-web 'MDSS inside'

Overview

The web-compatible BORRMA-web software collects all the data from measuring stations, fixed automatic spray technology systems and vehicles in a central database, where the data are processed and displayed in the required form on a dynamic map.

The web technology makes it possible to access the BORRMA-web from any location with Internet access.

In this way, the winter maintenance manager has access – at any time – to current and historical data and forecasts, together with an overview of all the resources in real time on a single screen.

Alarms which have been triggered by the ice early warning system are collected centrally and redistributed. The wide variety of data about road conditions, meteorological situation and vehicles represents an important support to decision-making, ensuring optimum efficiency as well as a dynamic lead of the maintenance operations.

Actions which have already been taken, such as activation of the fixed automatic spray technology systems or vehicle operations, are displayed, allowing straightforward and comprehensive control.

Using the collected data, it is possible to generate a wide variety of statistics about the use of vehicles and tools and the salt consumption. This information can then be exported in various file formats for further processing.

Dynmap

The BORRMA-web software is based on a dynamic map (the Dynmap). This consists of a vector-based static background (road map, satellite image, etc.) and various dynamic information layers (roads, weather stations, fixed automatic spray technology systems, vehicles, etc.) which are superimposed on the background. The dynamic part of the system is constantly updated, in order to display the latest data.

The vehicles are displayed on the map in accordance with the most recently transmitted GPS coordinates. The stretch of roads where tools are in use can also be visualized. The weather stations and the fixed automatic spray technology systems of all generations are also displayed on the dynamic map at their locations. The stretch of road which has been sprayed by a TMS, Micro-FAST or MTS is color-coded according to each activity.

Software architecture

Thanks to the BOS – the Boschung Operating System – a status of maximum availability is reached, as it integrates LINUX and KVM. This operating system offers therefore the following advantages to the client:

  • Stability
  • Efficiency
  • Reliability
  • Durability

In addition, individual software modules, such as alarm systems for example, can be integrated. The complete solution is a web-based software application which , apart from Internet access, does not require any special software.
